In the book, their car blows up before they enter the park.Later, some torn clothes are discovered, implying that they were killed by Ripper. In the episode, the only other humans are a few people that are seen being pushed into a building. In the book, it is mentioned that a few other families are seen in the park.

In the book, the kids go on the coffin cruise with their parents.He attempts to help the family but is attacked by Ripper. The Horror that tries to warn the family is fleshed out further, revealed to be named Blek who wanted to be host of Raw Deal until Retch Sniff got the gig.

Then the whole episode is revealed to be a show that two Horrors are watching, complaining about how they are sick of scary human shows. In the episode, they attempt to escape using their car only for it to be revealed that the game show host is controlling the car. In the book, the family escapes HorrorLand with a van and when they get home, they discover a Horror has stowed away and it gives them passes for next year.

The Doom Slide and Bat Barn are never shown or mentioned.

Despite being one of the main characters in the book, Clay is omitted from the episode.
